Abstract

Purpose : This study was a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest research which aimed to analyze the effect of repetitive practice-based assessment on CPR performance of non-medic soldiers. The study intended to seek a CPR education method suitable for military.

Methods : Experimental group, consisted of 38 participants, went through practice-based assessment with mannequins immediately after, and 2 weeks, 6 weeks, and 14 weeks after education and pre-assessment. Control group which consisted of 46 participants was given assessment once, 14 weeks after the education and pre-assessment. The data was analyzed using IBM SPSS 20.0, with descriptive statistics, chi-square test, independent t-test and ANCOVA.
Results : The experimental group had a higher ratio of people who have had CPR education in the past (p=.001) but the control group showed better performance (p<.05). Repetition of intensive assessment resulted in increase of experimental group`s performance score as the group progressed through assessments (p<.01). Control group showed significant decrease in score (p<.01).

Conclusion : Repetitive practice-based assessment has educational effects on improving participants` performance. Re-education must be provided within at most 14 weeks and should focus on practicing.
